The primary component of the multifaceted BuildItAZ Apprenticeship Initiative is funding for eligible entities to expand training and employment opportunities in the construction and building trades. The Office of Economic Opportunity awarded grants to five registered apprenticeship programs in April 2024 via a request for grant application process. Federal funding for these grants is made available by the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act.
Congratulations to the five registered apprenticeship programs listed below:
- Arizona Building Trades and Council
- Phoenix Electrical Joint Apprenticeship and Training Program
- Rummel Construction
- The Laborers Training and Retraining Trust of Arizona (LIUNA, Local 1184)
- Tucson Electrical Joint Apprenticeship and Training Program
This first round of investments of approximately $657,000 is expected to create additional training capacity of at least 248 apprentices in year one and 1,500 apprentices by 2026.
