The Office of Economic Opportunity:
The Office of Economic Opportunity exists to consolidate and improve analytic capacity for the state with the goal of identifying the Arizona’s economic advantages and disadvantages. OEO fulfills this objective by serving as Arizona’s workforce planning coordinator; collecting and refining employment surveys; providing economic and demographic research and analysis; providing staffing and support to the Workforce Arizona Council; and evaluating regulatory and taxation costs at the state and local level. The office works with essential partners including Arizona’s local areas, the US Department of Labor, and partner state agencies to create data driven competitiveness for employers and the workforce. Overall, OEO strives to facilitate the measurable improvement of key indicators of prosperity in Arizona with this work.
The State Demographer’s Office:
The State Demographer's Office produces the official population estimates and projections for the State of Arizona and its counties and incorporated places. These products are used by state agencies and local governments for various purposes as required the Arizona Constitution, Statutes, and Executive Orders. The office collects, reviews, and analyzes data that can be used as indicators of population change. It conducts research to improve the accuracy of demographic models used in estimates and projections. The State Demographer’s Office also cooperates with the U.S. Bureau of the Census on the Bureau’s Population Estimates Program and on decennial censuses. The office works in partnership with the Bureau to facilitate the use of demographic information in Arizona through a network of State Data Center affiliates.
The Economic Analysis Team:
The Economic Analysis Team supports statewide workforce development initiatives through analytical research and economic expertise. The Economic Analysis Team works in collaboration with state and local partners to develop products and solutions by leveraging workforce and labor market information. The Economic Analysis Team produces and communicates official state and sub-state employment reports including employment projections, unemployment estimates, and occupational profiles. In addition, the team provides training and instruction on research and data techniques to further state and local objectives. to workforce partners project-based employment analysis in support of state and local objectives.
OEO’s regulatory economist monitors Arizona’s tax and regulatory competitiveness using empirical and quantitative methods. Tax and regulatory policy proposals generally contain normative policy goals, but the regulatory economist provides positive statistics using a systematic data collection and analysis process. This process provides objective data that informs policy makers.
The Labor Market Information Team:
The Labor Statistics Unit collects, processes and validates data for the US Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), including local area employment and unemployment statistics, industry employment estimates, wage survey data, and more. BLS does not have a physical presence in Arizona, so it relies on expertise and knowledge of the Statistical Analysts in OEO’s Labor Statistics Unit. The data collected by this unit is the foundation for all labor statistics that apply to Arizona, sub-state areas within Arizona, and the entire US.
The Office of Economic Opportunity Workforce Division provides staffing and support to the Workforce Arizona Council, which implements the Governor’s strategic vision for a robust and effective workforce system in the State of Arizona. Additionally, the workforce division provides support to the Arizona Commerce Authority in the attraction and expansion of businesses and resources the Workforce system provides to Arizona Companies. Finally, our office provides leadership and project management by administering statewide workforce projects that promote economic prosperity for all.
